Will You be a Masterpiece?

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me. He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel."
 - Jeremiah 18:1-6

From the time we give our lives to Christ until the moment He calls us home, we are all an unfinished piece of artwork; an unfinished creation of the Lord most high. He works on each one of us adding careful and unique detail. He builds us up for specific purposes and when that purpose has been fulfilled He molds us in to something different. Into something even better. He takes care to add water to refresh us. He takes care to build us up steadily so we don't cave in. Like an artist He sees what He wants us to be, before we do. Yet there are times the clay becomes unworkable. There are times we choose to stay as we are. We refuse to allow God to mold us because we are comfortable where we are. What happens when we no longer allow ourselves to be molded? We end up on the shelf.

Our abilities are never "peaked" in spiritual matters. Yes, we will all hit plateaus in life but that doesn't mean we have indeed "arrived". That doesn't mean we can no longer improve and that certainly does not mean God is finished with us! We are called for a purpose, His purpose. We all have our own specific place in this world. It is God's responsibility to make the plans, but it is our responsibility to seek them out and follow them. It's ok if we don't see the big picture right away. If we did we would miss all the beautiful details along the way. Being in our comfort zone is a one-way road to nowhere. It leaves us on the shelf to dry. When our spirit runs dry we become frail and break easily. God never intends for us to be comfortable. His intentions are that we grow that we go out and push ourselves beyond the measures we think we are capable of!

When His work in us is finished and we're called home what do you hope to look back and see? A useless lump of dried, dusty, brittle clay? Or do you hope to see the clay that remained mold-able and reached it's full potential in the form of His beautiful masterpiece? The choice is not always easy, it's not always painless, it sure is not always comfortable;but it is always, always, always worth being humble enough to allow Him to mold us for His purpose and glory. Remain moldable, remain teachable and remain obedient to whatever God has called you to.

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.-2 Peter 1:10 & 11
