First Responder
There are times in life, even for the not so emotional people (such as myself), when something completely overwhelms you. I know in these instances my first reaction is "how do I fix this?" I'll be honest with you, I've been saved for about 17 years, and am just now learning how wrong that reaction truly is. How many times do I claim that Jesus is my everything, yet I first pursue other answers and ways first? How much more peace would be in all of our lives if we could train not just our minds, but our hearts to first cry out to Him? Even if it's just a simple cry of His name. Jesus. The most important lesson I am learning is when things happens, He is the first one on the scene. He's not sitting at the station waiting for a call, Jesus is a(the) first responder.
Think about that. If you were in an accident and a paramedic was already on the scene, would you being calling others for help? Would you be searching around for a band-aid? No. You would be grateful and accepting of the help that was there. It's like that with Jesus. He should always be the first help we seek. Does this mean we won't worry, or that emotions won't well up? Absolutely not. Emotions are a beautiful part of how God made us and can be a beautiful tool in communicating the presence of life and help in processing it. But it's important that we direct those emotions, and that they do not direct us. What good does it do to cry tears of anguish, yet put them in a bottle to wear around our necks? We should be allowing Him to takes those tears of anguish and emotion from us so we are not bogged down by them. Only He can take them and use them to make us conquerors!
As the greatest first responder, He is also the most prepared. So prepared infact, that He was already there waiting for you before it happend. Yes, your situation was no surprise to Him! He already stood in your stead, He already knew every little detail. The best part is He remains and walks you through it as well. Though how can He help us if our arms are crossed? This is when we need to put up our hands and surrender it to Him. We need to humble ourselves enough to admit that we need His help. When our palms are open, He can grab our hands and lead the way and He will bring you to victory!
He loves us so much that He chooses to place Himself between us and our circumstances. He wants us to depend solely on Him in every area of our lives. Lord, in every situation I will face help me to remember You are already there. Amen.
I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth!- Psalm 121:1-2
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.- Psalm 139:5
